Welcome, Scrubba Body enthusiasts, to an exciting chapter in our journey! As we celebrate our 7th birthday, we have a thrilling announcement to make — the addition of a new partner to our vibrant team. We are delighted to introduce Brookie, who has been an integral part of Scrubba Body for nearly six years and now embarks on a new role as a partner. To commemorate this milestone, we sat down with Brookie to learn more about her journey, aspirations, and the future of Scrubba Body. Get ready for an exclusive Q&A session that unveils the passion and dedication behind our brand. Let's dive in!
How did you first become involved with Scrubba Body, and what has your journey been like?
I’ve had close family ties with Josh and Jase my whole life and when I heard they were creating a self-care brand, I was eager to hop on board. I started out in 2017 working casually in the pop-up stores before taking on a more involved role when the first official store was opened. Over time, I’ve been fortunate enough to grow within my role and take on more responsibilities involving company logistics and production of almost all the products. Co-owning is such an exciting opportunity and I’m so blessed to be involve
What aspects of Scrubba Body's mission and values resonate with you the most?
One thing I’ve always loved about the company is that there’s never a substitute for quality. Ensuring all ingredients are sourced in Australia is so important for our brand and a complete non-negotiable.
Also, I’m only young (and surprisingly not a millionaire) so the cost of the products I buy does matter.
I, and I’m sure so many other people, always wanted to use natural products from cruelty free, Australian brands but the exuberant pricepoint of so many companies made it so inaccessible. That’s a huge reason why I love and respect Scrubba Body so much. It makes purchasing natural, ethical skincare a realistic option for all- not just those who can afford Lamborghinis. Don’t get me wrong- working behind the scenes purchasing ingredients, I see first-hand the huge price jump between low- quality, internationally sourced products and natural Australian-sourced ingredients. But we've crunched the numbers and natural products really don't need to cost an arm and a leg. `
As a long-time member of the Scrubba Body team, what are you most excited about in this new partnership and how do you envision it benefiting the brand?
The new partnership means another set of passionate hands to help it evolve. Although I've always been involved, the new set of responsibilities means I can further add to my impact within the company. I'm so excited to collaborate and form fresh ideas that will continue to foster our ethos.
Is there anything else you'd like to share about yourself or your aspirations for Scrubba Body's future?
I'm incredibly passionate about self-care and promoting a positive, fun, and inclusive self-care culture. My aspiration for Scrubba Body's future is to continue delighting our customers with exceptional products, fostering a strong sense of community, and inspiring individuals to embrace self-care as a joyful and fulfilling practice.
How do you envision Scrubba Body continuing to prioritize its core values of natural, vegan, and cruelty-free products with your new partnership?
Our commitment to natural, vegan, and cruelty-free products is unwavering. With the new partnership, we will continue to prioritise these core values and ensure that every product we offer aligns with our ethos. We will collaborate closely with our suppliers to source the best natural and vegan ingredients, maintain our ethical manufacturing processes, and provide our customers with high-quality, sustainable self-care options.
Can you share any upcoming projects or initiatives that Scrubba Body has in the pipeline?
Absolutely! We have some exciting projects in the pipeline that I can't wait to share with our community. We're working to expand our brands' footprint in a way we've never done before. Additionally, we're exploring collaborations with other like-minded brands and experts in the self-care industry to bring unique experiences and resources to our customers.
How do you see Scrubba Body's presence and impact growing within the self-care and skincare industry in the coming years?
In the coming years, we envision Scrubba Body becoming a prominent name in the self-care and skincare industry. As we continue to be an affordable option for those wanting to have natural products, we want to become a go-to brand for individuals seeking natural, vegan, and cruelty-free self-care solutions. We want to create an impact by promoting self-care as a joyful and essential practice that nourishes both the body and the soul.
What message would you like to convey to Scrubba Body's loyal customers and supporters as you embark on this new chapter?
To our incredible customers and supporters, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your unwavering support. We are thrilled to embark on this new chapter, and we promise to remain true to our values and continue delivering the exceptional self-care experience you know and love. Your feedback, trust, and loyalty have been invaluable, and we are excited to bring you even more innovative, high-quality products that enhance your self-care rituals. Thank you for joining us on this journey!
As we conclude this exclusive Q&A session with Brookie, we are filled with renewed enthusiasm and inspiration. Brookie's journey within Scrubba Body, her dedication to self-care, and her vision for the brand's future exemplify the essence of what we strive to achieve every day — creating natural, vegan, and cruelty-free products that make self-care a joyful and fulfilling experience.
With our new partnership, Scrubba Body is poised to soar to greater heights. Brookie's expertise, passion, and creative energy will undoubtedly enhance our offerings, expand our reach, and foster an even stronger sense of community. ]]>In this blog post, we will explore the benefits of essential oil pulse point rollers and how they can help to improve your health and well-being.
]]>
Essential oil pulse point rollers have become increasingly popular in recent years as more people seek natural ways to manage stress, anxiety, and other health concerns. These rollers are a convenient and easy way to enjoy the benefits of essential oils, and they can be used at any time and any place.
In this blog post, we will explore the benefits of essential oil pulse point rollers and how they can help to improve your health and well-being.
Essential oil pulse point rollers are small, portable roller bottles that contain a blend of essential oils mixed with a carrier oil. The roller ball applicator allows the oil to be applied directly to the skin at specific pulse points, which are areas where the blood vessels are closest to the surface of the skin. These pulse points include the wrists, temples, neck, and behind the ears.
The roller ball applicator makes it easy to apply the essential oil blend, and the carrier oil helps to dilute the essential oils so that they can be safely applied to the skin. Essential oils can be quite potent, so it is important to dilute them before applying them to the skin.
One of the most significant benefits of essential oil pulse point rollers is their ability to help reduce stress and anxiety. Certain essential oils, such as lavender and chamomile, have calming properties that can help to relax the mind and body. When applied to the pulse points, these essential oils can help to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety and promote a sense of calm.
Studies have shown that inhaling lavender essential oil can reduce feelings of anxiety and improve sleep quality. A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that inhaling a blend of lavender and bergamot essential oils helped to reduce anxiety in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery.
Essential oils can also be used to improve mood and promote feelings of happiness and well-being. Citrus oils, such as orange and lemon, have uplifting properties that can help to boost mood and increase energy levels. When applied to the pulse points, these essential oils can help to improve mood and promote a positive outlook.
A study published in the International Journal of Neuroscience found that inhaling lemon essential oil helped to improve mood and reduce feelings of anxiety in a group of 12 participants.
Essential oils can also be used to relieve headaches and migraines. Peppermint oil, in particular, has been shown to be effective in reducing the symptoms of headaches and migraines. When applied to the temples and forehead, peppermint oil can help to soothe headaches and reduce pain.
A study published in the International Journal of Neuroscience found that applying a blend of peppermint and lavender essential oils to the forehead and temples helped to relieve the symptoms of headaches in a group of 32 participants.
Essential oils can also be used to improve sleep quality and promote restful sleep. Lavender oil, in particular, has been shown to be effective in improving sleep quality and reducing insomnia. When applied to the pulse points or used in a diffuser, lavender oil can help to promote relaxation and improve sleep.
A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that inhaling lavender essential oil improved sleep quality and reduced feelings of anxiety in a group of 221 patients.
Essential oils can also be used to boost the immune system and promote overall health and wellness. Certain essential oils, such as tea tree and eucalyptus, have antimicrobial properties that can help to fight off harmful bacteria and viruses.
When applied to the pulse points or diffused in the air, these essential oils can help to boost the immune system and prevent the spread of infections. A study published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy found that tea tree oil was effective in killing antibiotic-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus, a type of bacteria that can cause serious infections.
Essential oils can also be used to relieve menstrual cramps and other symptoms of menstrual pain. Clary sage oil, in particular, has been shown to be effective in reducing menstrual pain and cramping. When applied to the lower abdomen, clary sage oil can help to reduce inflammation and promote relaxation.
A study published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research found that applying clary sage oil to the lower abdomen helped to reduce menstrual pain in a group of 48 women.
Essential oils can also be used to improve digestion and promote healthy gut function. Peppermint oil, in particular, has been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). When applied to the abdomen, peppermint oil can help to reduce inflammation and promote healthy digestion.
A study published in the Journal of Gastroenterology found that peppermint oil was effective in reducing symptoms of IBS in a group of 72 participants.
Finally, essential oil pulse point rollers can be used as a natural alternative to conventional perfumes. Unlike synthetic fragrances, which can contain harmful chemicals and irritants, essential oils are natural and safe to use on the skin. They can also provide a range of therapeutic benefits, depending on the specific oils used in the blend.
Essential oils can be blended to create a wide variety of scents, from floral and citrus to woody and earthy. By creating your own blend of essential oils, you can customize the scent to suit your personal preferences and mood.
Using essential oil pulse point rollers is easy and straightforward. Simply remove the cap and roll the ball applicator over the pulse points on your body, such as your wrists, temples, neck, or behind your ears. You can apply the oil as often as needed throughout the day, depending on your personal preferences and needs.
It is important to note that essential oils can be quite potent, so it is important to dilute them before applying them to the skin. Most essential oil pulse point rollers are already pre-diluted with a carrier oil, but if you are creating your own blend, be sure to use a carrier oil such as jojoba or coconut oil to dilute the essential oils.
It is also important to do a patch test before using any new essential oil product on your skin. Apply a small amount of the oil to your skin and wait 24 hours to see if you have any adverse reactions, such as redness or itching.
Essential oil pulse point rollers are a convenient and easy way to enjoy the benefits of essential oils. They can be used to reduce stress and anxiety, improve mood, relieve headaches and migraines, promote restful sleep, boost the immune system, relieve menstrual cramps, improve digestion, and provide a natural alternative to conventional perfumes.
By using essential oil pulse point rollers, you can incorporate the therapeutic benefits of essential oils into your daily routine and improve your health and well-being in a natural and safe way.
Crystals have been used for centuries as a form of healing and self-care. They are believed to contain energy that can be harnessed for various purposes, including physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. Many people use crystals as a way to improve their overall well-being and to help them cope with stress and anxiety.
In this blog post, we will explore the benefits of using crystals as a form of self-care and provide tips on how to incorporate them into your daily routine.
Crystals are naturally occurring minerals that form under specific conditions in the earth’s crust. They are made up of atoms and molecules that are arranged in a specific pattern, which gives them their unique properties. There are hundreds of different types of crystals, each with their own unique properties and uses.
Crystals have been used for centuries in many different cultures for their healing properties. They are believed to contain energy that can be harnessed for various purposes, including physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
Crystals are believed to work by interacting with the energy fields that surround our bodies. These energy fields, also known as chakras, are thought to be connected to our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Different crystals are believed to have different properties and energies, which can be used to target specific areas of the body and mind. For example, rose quartz is often used to promote love and self-care, while amethyst is believed to promote relaxation and stress relief.
Crystals can be used in a variety of ways, including wearing them as jewelry, carrying them in a pocket or purse, placing them on specific areas of the body, or using them during meditation or other spiritual practices.
There are many benefits to using crystals as a form of self-care. Here are just a few:
Many crystals are believed to have calming and soothing properties that can help to reduce stress and anxiety. For example, amethyst is often used to promote relaxation and relieve stress, while lapis lazuli is believed to promote peace and tranquility.
Crystals can be used to help heal emotional wounds and promote emotional well-being. For example, rose quartz is often used to promote love and self-care, while citrine is believed to promote happiness and joy.
Crystals can be used to promote spiritual growth and enhance meditation and other spiritual practices. For example, clear quartz is often used to amplify spiritual energy, while selenite is believed to promote spiritual awakening and connection to higher realms.
Many crystals are believed to have physical healing properties that can be used to promote overall health and well-being. For example, turquoise is often used to promote healing and recovery, while hematite is believed to promote circulation and relieve pain.
There are many different ways to use crystals for self-care. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
One of the easiest ways to incorporate crystals into your daily routine is to wear them as jewelry. You can find a wide variety of crystal jewelry online or at your local crystal shop. Choose a piece of jewelry that contains the crystal that resonates with you the most and wear it throughout the day.
If you don’t want to wear crystal jewelry, you can also carry crystals with you in your pocket or purse. Choose a small, tumbled crystal that fits easily in your pocket or purse and carry it with you throughout the day.
Meditation is a powerful tool for promoting self-care and healing. You can enhance your meditation practice by using crystals. Choose a crystal that resonates with your intention for the meditation
and hold it in your hand or place it on a nearby surface. As you meditate, focus your attention on the crystal and allow its energy to guide your meditation.
You can also incorporate crystals into your self-care routine by using them during a bath or shower. Place a few crystals in your bath or shower and allow their energy to infuse the water. As you bathe or shower, visualize the water and crystals washing away any negative energy and promoting healing and rejuvenation.
You can also use crystals to promote positive energy and healing in your home or workspace. Choose a few crystals that resonate with your intention and place them in strategic locations around your home or workspace. For example, you could place a rose quartz crystal in your bedroom to promote love and self-care, or a citrine crystal on your desk to promote happiness and creativity.
Crystals can also be used to enhance your yoga or exercise practice. Choose a crystal that resonates with your intention for the practice and hold it in your hand or place it on a nearby surface. As you practice yoga or exercise, focus your attention on the crystal and allow its energy to guide your movements.
When choosing crystals for self-care, it’s important to choose crystals that resonate with your energy and intention. Here are a few tips for choosing and caring for crystals:
When choosing crystals, trust your intuition and choose the crystals that resonate with you the most. You can do this by holding the crystal in your hand and tuning in to its energy.
Crystals can pick up negative energy over time, so it’s important to cleanse them regularly. You can do this by placing the crystal in direct sunlight or moonlight, smudging it with sage or palo santo, or placing it in a bowl of salt water.
Before using your crystals, it’s a good idea to set an intention for them. This can be as simple as holding the crystal in your hand and stating your intention out loud.
Crystals are powerful tools for healing and self-care, so it’s important to use them with respect. Treat your crystals with care and avoid dropping or damaging them.
When not in use, store your crystals in a safe and sacred place. You can use a special box or pouch to keep them protected.
Using crystals as a form of self-care can be a powerful tool for promoting healing and well-being. By choosing crystals that resonate with your energy and intention, and incorporating them into your daily routine, you can harness the energy of these powerful minerals to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. Whether you wear them as jewellery, carry them with you, or use them during meditation or other spiritual practices, crystals can be a powerful tool for promoting self-care and well-being.

When buying vegan chocolate, it's important to check the label carefully to ensure that it doesn't contain any animal-derived ingredients such as milk powder or whey. Many high-quality chocolate brands now offer vegan options, so you're sure to find something that suits your taste.
Easter eggs are a traditional gift during the Easter season, and there are now plenty of vegan-friendly options available. Wine is a popular gift during the holiday season, and there are many vegan-friendly options available. Look for wines that are labelled as vegan, or contact the winery directly to inquire about their production methods. Many wineries use animal products such as fish bladder or egg whites during the filtration process, but there are now many alternatives available.
Vegan wines are made without any animal-derived ingredients and are often made using sustainable and organic methods. They make great gifts for wine lovers and are perfect for pairing with vegan Easter meals.
If you're looking for a gift that's both stylish and ethical, consider vegan fashion. Many companies now offer vegan-friendly clothing, shoes, and accessories that are made without using any animal products. Look for brands that use materials such as cotton, hemp, or bamboo, as well as vegan leather alternatives such as cork or recycled plastic.
Vegan fashion is a great way to show your support for the vegan lifestyle, and to encourage others to make more ethical fashion choices. It's also a great way to find unique and stylish gifts that are sure to impress.
For a gift that keeps on giving, consider a vegan subscription box. There are many companies that offer monthly subscription boxes filled with vegan snacks, beauty products, or lifestyle items. ]]>Over the past few years, there has definitely been a lot of talk about the value of practising self-care and developing a routine. The concept of taking care of one's physical and mental health with a holistic (whole body) approach is admirable, but it can be a little daunting.
Self-care practises may appear like an uphill battle for people who have never engaged in them, as well as impractical in today's extremely busy (and chaotic) environment. You may have given it a shot but failed to stick with it, leaving you with the impression that they lack the necessary aptitude.
You might feel up to the task, but acknowledging your need for self-care is another. Another is actually starting a self-care routine that can enhance your life, especially in light of all the uncontrollable events that occur in the world.
Everyone's definition of self-care, though, is different. Your preferred method of stress relief might not be beneficial to your best friend. Even partners in strong, committed relationships often have distinct differences when it comes to things like companionship, physical activity, and leisure time.
Here are our top tips;
Your body's physical needs include those that keep it healthy and functioning properly.
When thinking about physical self-care, list your needs and any actions you already take to address them. Put more emphasis on these in your self-care plan if you find any areas where you'd like to make improvements.
Adults typically require 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. Regularly not getting enough good sleep can have an impact on your mood, ability to concentrate, and general health.
Not getting the appropriate amount of sleep is very typical, but the good news is that you can frequently increase both the quantity and quality of your sleep on your own.
Setting aside your fear of the doctor's office and promptly seeking medical attention for any problems can be considered good self-care.
If you haven't observed any issues and are typically in good health, you might question the need for an annual exam - especially if you don't have insurance.
However, scheduling routine medical checkups with a professional might help you identify health issues early on, before they worsen. Small problems can soon worsen and have an impact on other elements of health, such hunger and sleep.
The varieties of food you eat are only one aspect of good nutrition.
The best way to maintain good health is to eat a balanced diet and prioritise nourishing foods above those that provide few health benefits.
It's equally crucial to think about your eating habits: Do you wait until you're famished and then chow down between meetings, as you dash from home to work, or while watching TV?
Or do you allow yourself enough time to eat slowly and at regular intervals, allowing you to focus on your food and savour each bite?
Current recommendations for exercise for Adults who are physically able to is to engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity each week.
When you dislike what you're doing, exercising can seem like a tedious chore. But if it's enjoyable or even recreational, you'll probably want to do it more frequently.
It's important to choose exercises that you enjoy (or at the very least don't hate performing) when including exercise in your self-care routine. If you detest running, think about buying a bike or a set of roller skates as an alternative to running shoes.
People frequently refer to "intimacy" for "sex." However, other kinds of physical touch are equally crucial for wellbeing.
Humans require touch to survive, and being without it might have negative health effects.
Looking for self-care techniques that satisfy your need for touch? You could try;
Both cognitive and mental health needs are referred to as mental needs. In other words, you should think about what gives you mental energy and keeps you feeling alert.
Mental health is significantly influenced by stress levels.
Investigating the issues that are now stressing you out is a smart place to start. How do you handle those problems? Can any be gotten rid of? If not, how can you handle them more effectively?
Setting clear boundaries can help you safeguard the time you set aside for yourself, which can reduce stress.
Setting these boundaries could be something like stating your preference to not do something, declining to do extra work or expressing needs to others directly.
The benefits of developing and strengthening your mind can be enormous for general wellness.
Increasing cognitive abilities could entail reading to gain new knowledge or even playing video games to sharpen focus.
Therapy plays a significant role in many people's self-care. You can experience considerable improvement by working through any mental health symptoms with a professional, which can be advantageous for both your emotional and physical well-being.
Even if you don't have any obvious symptoms, professional support can still be beneficial. Everyone encounters obstacles and allowing them to pile up can cause stress and exhaustion.
Therapy offers a place to develop coping mechanisms and go through anything on your mind if you feel overwhelmed for any reason.
Allowing yourself to occasionally lose focus and unwind allows your brain to rejuvenate, which fosters maximum performance.
Insufficient mental rest may be the cause of your frequent attentional wandering. When you feel overstimulated, taking a vacation from electronics could be considered self-care for you. To give your brain a break, try drawing, taking nature walks, or taking quick naps.
Setting aside time for enjoyment and play also helps. A busy schedule filled with obligations and little free time is frequently a precursor to oncoming burnout.
Emotions and feelings can offer hints about what you are missing in your life. Getting in touch with your emotions, learning to comprehend what they are trying to tell you, and using this knowledge to better safeguard your emotional health are all part of practising emotional self-care.
When you don't understand your emotions, it can be difficult to let them lead you.
Make it a point to sit with your feelings more often because doing so makes it simpler to acknowledge emotional demands and identify when they are not met.
If you have problems connecting with your emotions, adding meditation or journaling to your self-care routine may be beneficial. It might also be beneficial to express your emotions to trusted persons.
Although precise needs for social connection can vary depending on personality and other circumstances, most people need to spend some time engaging in meaningful social engagement.
Spending more time connecting may be necessary if you experience loneliness frequently. If you frequently feel overstimulated or even agitated among people, give alone time more importance.
Spending time with friends and family can help you meet your social requirements but reaching out and forming new relationships in your community can also be beneficial.
Everyone needs alone time to relax.
This is different for everyone, but it could mean:
Whatever you choose to do with your time, quiet relaxation is crucial for emotional well-being, therefore every self-care strategy should include some type of alone time.
A good rule of thumb when planning anything, that is commonly practiced, is to think S.M.A.R.T.
Self-care is significantly influenced by self-discovery. Finding more effective ways to take care of yourself is attainable by becoming more aware of your unique needs.
Following the identification of your own needs, you can begin to compile a list of your daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly requirements.
Remember that your needs for self-care frequently alter throughout time, especially when you consider what's going on in the outside world.
Take a look at some of our Self-Care Plan templates at the bottom of the page and decide which one works best for you? Of maybe you want to create your own plan that suits your lifestyle.
We managed to corner Josh this week (in between drinks) and ask him about his fave Scrubba products for this weeks blog…
]]>Today we are celebrating the boss-mans birthday. In true Josh style, he has dragged his birthday out over a few weeks, with an overly extravagant party last weekend followed up by more celebrations this weekend for his actual birthday. Believe me when I tell you, we’re all going to need another break to recover and let our livers heal, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
We managed to corner Josh this week (in between drinks) and ask him about his fave Scrubba products for this weeks blog…
What are your top 3 products and why?
That’s like choosing your favourite child… which I will totally do because I definitely have favourites! Lol. One of our newest products has made it’s way into my top 3 and that’s the 24K Gold Face Serum! It feels SO nice and the gold is SO good for your skin. I’ve been using it every day since we made it. I feel like Cleopatra.
Sticking with the Cleopatra theme, I also can’t go past the Coconut & Rose Bath Milk. We still don’t have a bath at home but I’ll make sure I take this with me anytime we go to a hotel, or sometimes I’ll just sneak over to Mum’s house to use it. My skin feels incredible after it!
And, of course, the lip balms make it into my Top 3 also. I keep changing my favourite flavour between the Watermelon & the Toasted Coconut, but all of them are the absolute best!
What about ingredients. What do you love recommending to people?
Definitely Rosehip is up there. It just does everything for you. If you haven’t already, have a read of our blogs (I think we’re up to 3 different ones about Rosehip now). There’s nothing this oil can’t do.
Another one is coffee. Yes, it’s super messy, but so worth it. The oil in coffee is known to help a whole bunch of skin concerns like eczema, psoriasis, stretch marks. Plus it leaves your skin feeling unbelievably smooth.
What’s your go-to candle fragrance?
I’m so flippant with this. Vanilla & Caramel most of the time but then that makes me hungry, so it’s not great if I’m trying to be good with my eating. So then I’ll flip to the Coconut & Elderflower, which is a nice subtle scent, or Tobacco & Oak, which actually isn’t as gross as it sounds.
And, lastly, can you give us any inside goss on new things that might be happening this year?
Well, we already have a new, not-so-secret, range coming which is our Pulse Point Rollers. We added these to the shelves in-store just before Christmas but we’re still waiting on our packaging boxes to arrive before we “officially” launch them online. They’re so nice though! I’ve been using the Sleep roller every night and it works a dream.
Other than that, we also have new products coming for the Hey Hudson brand too… Shampoo Bars!! I’ve used these on my dog and also on myself and they’re sooo nice!
Plus we’re busy planning some new workshops with a twist, which we will be running as part of the Stars of Newcastle campaign, so all proceeds from these will be going straight to the Cancer Council.
Speaking of the Stars Of Newcastle, tell us a bit about it and how can everyone get involved?
Stars Of Newcastle is an initiative where Newcastle’s business owners and local personalities (aka Stars) light up the dance floor at the Civic Theatre with local dance teachers to raise funds for the Cancer Council. Think Dancing With The Stars… but more local & for a good cause.
I’m planning a couple of fundraisers between now and the big dance-off in June, so keep an eye out for those. In the meantime though, here is the link if you would like to donate to the cause.

]]>WHAT! A! YEAR! Our team is taking a much-deserved break this week; getting some much needed R&R while also recharging for another incredible year to come. While they do that, I (Josh) thought I’d jump on the blog and reflect on what an amazing year we’ve had by going through some of our highlights. So strap in!
A good problem happened to us early in the year when we realised that we had outgrown our manufacturing space that we had out the back of our Westfield Kotara store. So we put the vote to you on our socials; do we find a find a shed somewhere and keep our Westfield store, or would you follow us somewhere new that would accommodate all of it. The response was a massive help and we started hunting for a new space.
In September this year we found the perfect space and got to work painting, building walls, laying floors, hanging shelves… we did it all. The new space has it all; a shop space, a huge production space, a room for our workshops and even space for us to build our ‘Got A Queery’ podcast studio. We LOVE it and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
In July this year all our hard work was recognised when we found out that our brand and myself were both finalists in the Local Business Awards and the Australian Small Business Champion Awards. We were so honoured and excited to get dressed up and attend both Award nights, even if we did have some sore heads the mornings after.
We were even more excited when our name was called out as the WINNER for the Specialised Retail category at the Local Business Awards. We can't wait to apply & cross our fingers for 2023!
In September we were absolutely HONOURED to sponsor the Knockers & Moles event, organised by the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation. We have been working with HBCF for a few years now, like donating a portion of every sale from our limited-edition Pink Lip Balms every October. We always jump at any opportunity to help the incredible work they do across our local area.
Another way we stepped up this year is by putting my hand up for the Stars Of Newcastle, where business owners and local personalities (aka Stars) light up the dance floor with local dance teachers to raise funds for Cancer Council. Think ‘Dancing With The Stars’ but local and for a good cause. I’m is hoping to raise a massive $20k for this great cause, and you can help me out by donating HERE.
FIVE new product ranges were released this year. Not just 5 new products, 5 new collections of products. And we have more on the way in the early new year that we’re SO excited for you to see/smell/use.
XL Candles – You asked, and we listened. All our amazing fragrances became available in these HUGE jars with a 120 hour burn time.
Travel Candles – Just like the XL Candles, our Travel Tins were born from the feedback we received from all of you. Perfect for taking your fave fragrance away with you.
Reed Diffuser Refills – No need to buy a whole new Reed Diffuser when you run out now. Just grab these refills and fill up your empty jar.
Face Serums – These took sooo long to perfect but we’re so happy they did because the final products are incredible! 6 new Face Serums to treat a whole range of skin conditions. Have you found your face yet?
Hair & Beard Oils – We often get asked for hair & beard products, so this is just the start. Watch this space for a whole bunch of new goodies coming next year.
Waaaaay back in 2019 we started running workshops, which then got put on hold thanks to Covid. By the time we could safely start running them again, we didn’t have the space to do so.
But they're back and last month we christened our new Newcastle workshop space with the return of our Body Scrubs and Candle Making workshops, which were a huge success!
Did you know that you can book your own private workshops or even hire out the space to run your own? Get in touch with us to get something organised: info@scrubbabody.com.au
To think that we have been fortunate enough to still be doing something we love after 6 & a half years absolutely blows my mind. I won’t lie, there are definitely hard, stressful times, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. To be able to celebrate our 6th Birthday earlier this year, alongside an amazing team of talented and hard-working individuals, was such an honour. Here’s to another, even better, 6 years to come!
We are so grateful for our incredible family of wholesalers who have our goodies lining their shelves all over Australia, Singapore, and Japan. The number of fabulous retailers stocking our wares has nearly doubled in the last 2 years and we are overwhelmed with the positive feedback we receive. Do you know of a store where our products would be a good suit? Let us know in the comments.
To wrap up, the most amazing thing to happen to us this year has been you; our incredible community who supported us all year long. Not just supporting us by purchasing our goodies, but by liking our posts on socials, leaving reviews, providing feedback, and helping us spread the word (if you’ve made it this far down the blog, that’s real support! Lol). Without this support we wouldn’t be able to do what we love, so THANK YOU!! Thank you for everything.
Stay safe, stay amazing and we’ll see you next year! 😉

The high street and shopping centres are full of Christmas shoppers looking for the latest must-have, but have you ever thought about supporting small businesses and buying your Christmas presents from them instead?
There are many reasons why you should buy from small businesses, but especially at Christmas. By buying from small businesses, you are supporting the local economy and helping to keep people in jobs. You are also more likely to find unique and personalised gifts that you won’t find on the high street. When you buy from small businesses, you are helping to create a more sustainable economy.

Small businesses are often more environmentally friendly than large corporations as they have less of an impact on the environment. They are also more likely to use local suppliers which reduces their carbon footprint. Small businesses are the backbone of the economy and by supporting them, we can help to create jobs and keep money circulating within our communities. When you buy from small businesses, you are helping to build a stronger and more vibrant local community.
So this Christmas, think about supporting small businesses and buying your gifts from them. It’s a great way to find unique and special gifts (because who doesn’t want to be known as the best gift giver).

Gold skin care has become popular once more because of a viral Instagram post that revealed that gold-infused masks were the backstage trick to the runway glow of Victoria's Secret models.
Cleopatra was onto something… It turns out that gold is an effective ingredient that is both safe and non-irritating for most people. According to Dr Ife J Rodney of Eternal Dermatology;
According to legend, Cleopatra was the first lady to apply pure gold to her face in order to keep her skin looking young and brilliant. As the "flesh of the Gods," gold was regarded as one of the most valuable minerals in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Japan because of its anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and collagen-boosting properties. Additionally, it was adored since it improved dull, lifeless complexions to make them look more radiant and restore their healthy glow.
The therapeutic properties of pure gold were also known and used centuries ago. Chinese medics employed pure gold to heal ingrown hairs, smallpox scarring, and skin ulcers, while the Romans used gold-infused medicines to treat skin blemishes.
With the help of Scrubba Body’s brand-new, extravagant 24k Gold Face Serum, you may now benefit from the amazing anti-ageing properties of pure gold at an affordable price. Wondering why your beauty shelf should contain pure gold? This is why:
One potential advantage of gold is that it can actually boost the potency of other skincare ingredients. Harvard Medical School graduate & dermatology researcher Dr Loretta Ciralod MD states;
High concentrations of antioxidants found in pure gold prevent free radicals from causing skin damage. Wrinkles, fine lines, redness, hyperpigmentation, and skin irritation are all examples of this damage. Free radicals brought on by sun damage, pollution, chemicals, and other assaults are to blame for these skin alterations.
According to Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank, a cosmetic dermatologist in New York City, “Gold is used as an anti-aging ingredient, as it can help reduce inflammation, which is a cause of acne and hyperpigmentation,”
A 2021 study published in the peer-reviewed chemistry journal 'Molecules' suggests that gold nanoparticles may "accelerate wound healing pathways" via a variety of mechanisms, including antioxidant activity. According to a different study, gold nanoparticles can improve blood flow and have antibacterial characteristics.
Because pure gold has anti-inflammatory effects, when used topically, it can enhance the brightness and shine of your skin. Pure gold improves circulation due to its capacity to absorb into the epidermis. This results in a younger-looking, brighter glow.
Gold's inflammatory-blocking abilities aid to soothe irritated, inflamed acne. Dryness can make this irritation worse, but moisturising oils and the anti-inflammatory qualities of gold can soothe it. Experts concur.
According to Tabasum Mir, a dermatologist who specialises in cosmetic laser surgery and skincare, gold can soothe acne inflammation, lessen skin redness, and shield against free radicals that cause wrinkles and UV damage.
According a study posted in the National Library of Medicine;
Remember that free radicals are extremely unstable chemicals that can be produced by environmental irritants like UV radiation, smoking, and pollution and cause early ageing symptoms.
A crucial component of healthy skin is collagen. It keeps the skin pliable and soft. However, as time passes, collagen production decreases, resulting in paper-like, inflexible skin.
Gold has antioxidant qualities that stop collagen from constantly breaking down. As a result, the skin maintains its' youthful appearance and collagen levels.
Is your skin unusually dry? Gold might assist you get rid of your dry, lifeless skin. The ions in the gold speed up the skin cells' metabolic processes. Your skin's inner layer will feel nourished and its outer layer less flaky consequently.
So there it is; experts agree that pure gold possesses a variety of potent anti-aging and skin-saving effects, so make it part of your routine now. Avoid being duped by items that include gold mica; although super shimmery & pretty, it's not genuine gold. The words "24k gold" on the label, which indicate that the item includes 24 carat gold, should be sought after instead. 24K gold is one of the highest concentrations of gold available for use on the skin. With such a high concentration, you can take full advantage of the benefits of gold, boosting your skin's brightness and shielding it from free radical damage.

Lavender oil is also thought to be effective in treating hair loss. Lavender oil can also help to keep your hair healthy and strong. It can help to prevent hair loss and can also help to treat dandruff and other scalp conditions. Lavender oil is also a great way to add shine and lustre to your hair. It can also help to protect your hair from damage caused by heat styling and UV rays.
Massaging Shine Hair Serum into the scalp can also help to improve circulation and encourage hair growth. Leave the oil on for at least 30 minutes before washing it off. If you're looking for a natural leave-in conditioner, then Shine Hair Serum oil can be used to help tame frizzy hair and add shine. Simply apply a small amount of oil to damp hair and comb through. You can also add a few drops of oil to your regular conditioner to help boost its moisture-locking properties.
]]>Reed diffusers don't have a flame and don't need heat, in contrast to candles. They naturally release smell into the atmosphere. Without a flame, there is no soot and, more crucially, no fire risk. Due of this, some families may find reed diffusers to be a more useful aroma solution.
]]>Reed diffusers are very common and popular at the moment, as an alternative to candles, to fill your home with amazing fragrances. Reeds are inserted into a glass bottle or glass jar with scented diffuser oil, soaking up the fragrance, and then emitting a pleasant aroma throughout your home - it's that easy to use!
Reed diffusers don't have a flame and don't need heat, in contrast to candles. They naturally release smell into the atmosphere. Without a flame, there is no soot and, more crucially, no fire risk. Due of this, some families may find reed diffusers to be a more useful aroma solution.
Finding The Right Spot For Your Reed Diffuser
The way the smell is spread depends on where you place your reed diffuser. Your diffuser should be placed in high traffic areas because the constant air flow helps the aroma spread. The aroma will also last longer if you place them lower rather than higher (rather than on a high shelf in the corner of the room). Try to keep them away from open windows or fans, though, as these types of air movement will waste more aroma than is necessary.
Another excellent location is right inside the room, next to the door, so you can smell it as you walk in. Consider a diffuser as you would a bunch of flowers: you'll occasionally catch a whiff of the aroma as you pass, but it won't always fill the room.
How Often Should You Flip The Reeds?
For a stronger fragrance from your reed diffuser you can flip the reeds. The reeds can be turned daily or only a few at a time. Remember that the fragrance oil will evaporate more quickly the more reeds you turn and the more frequently you flip them.
When flipping the reeds, exercise caution. Before setting the reeds down on a sensitive counter top, flip them over a trash can or sink and make sure to rinse the container of any fragrance oil drops.
Before leaving for a holiday, turn all of the diffusers' reeds. As opposed to a stuffy, stale house, your home will have a pleasant scent when you get home.
Refilling Your Diffuser
Before adding new oil to your diffuser, clean the container well with soap and water and allow it to completely dry. Starting with new oil is preferable to continually adding to old oil.
Change the reeds when you change the oil. Over time, reeds become dirty and clogged and lose their effectiveness. There are various types of reeds. It's preferable to stay with one brand because producers choose the best reeds for their oil.
Reed Diffuser Fragrance Is Too Strong?
It's not too difficult to fix if you find that your diffuser is a little too potent for your tastes. Simply take off a few of the reeds to distribute the aroma less and in a more subdued way. Start by taking out one or two reeds at a time until you achieve the ideal balance. We recommend discarding any reeds you take out right away because they could get damaged if you put them on certain surfaces.
I Can’t Smell My Reed Diffuser
This may occasionally be an indicator of low quality, especially if you have saved a few dollars and purchased a cheaper reed diffuser. If you have bought from us, however, the answer is certainly no! We always use premium raw materials, so the reeds can provide a quick & strong aroma. We work and develop in accordance with the size of a typical Australian home because we are unable to anticipate the size of every customer's room and tailor a product to suit. Simply adding more reeds to your diffuser will help to spread more fragrance into your area, making the scent stronger and filling more of your room if your room is larger than normal or has an open layout.
Reed Diffuser Safety Tips:
So by now, you’ve probably heard from our social media, or past emails that we have been renovating and moving into a new space on King St in Newcastle’s CBD. It’s taken us a month of renovating. Starting with removing the previous tenants broken furniture, old carpet, and rubbish. Then we divideD the space into the 5 main areas.
Firstly we have the shop front. It’s a little smaller than our previous stores, we were always fluffing out those spaces with extra gift boxes or plants. Our shop front now is completely functional and easy to navigate.

One thing we noticed in our previous stores was that the product flow was a little off, so we’ve really tried to make sure that everything is together now. You have shelves on the left wall, shelves on the right wall, and three tables in the middles. On the left wall we have a row of shelves for Hey Hudson. A Row for Mayde Tea. A row for soaps, oils and magnesium sprays, a row for Scrubs and the row for home aromas (Candles and Reed Diffusers). On the right side shelves, we have our Lips shelves, our Face shelves and our Gifts Pack shelves. Then we have the gorgeous handmade tables in the middle which are holding White Space Crafts Terrariums and more Gift Packs.
Next up we have our function / workshop room. This is a huge space we have to the right of the shop front that we plan to hold our workshops in. We even went and bought a giant 20 person conference room table so you can bring all of your friends along too! Before covid, holding workshops was our favourite weekend activity. And now with the worst of the pandemic (pretty much) behind us, we plan on organising a few different workshops over the coming months. We’ll be holding Make your own scrub, Make your own candle, Sip and Paint and DIY Terrarium just to start. I’m super excited for all of this to start! As well as the DIY workshops, we’re thinking about hiring out the space to other creators to hold their own workshops. But that is something we’ll be needing to do a bit more research on.
Then we have our production space where all our products are made and our raw ingredients are stored. This is where the magic happens. We have shelves and drawers and benches all dedicated to making, packaging and packing which is something we’ve never had before. We’ve always had to use making space for packaging and ordering and mixing and in the one place. But now, everything has its own dedicated area which is going to save us so much time as well as being able to make bigger batches of our products too.
Out the far back behind all of that is our kitchen. Yay! Speaks for itself really.
We also have an extra special room behind the shop front. This is our studio / hang out room. You might be aware that Josh and I have a podcast called Got A Queery, this is where we’ll be recording from from now on. We’ve soundproofed the walls, installed and super cool table for the mics, as well as housing the bevvy fridge and drinks trolly (priorities). There’s also a couch for chilling out, and then my favourite part of the space is the back which is the photog area. I have my lighting and tripods, for product film & photography. I’m super excited to get some quality images out there of our beautiful Scrubba and Hey Hudson products.
So that’s our new store. We’re open 10-5:30 Tuesday – Friday and 10-4 on Saturdays. Pop in for a tour, tell them Hayley sent you.

Our new range of face oils is almost here and I CANNOT wait for you guys to see and use them! The next specialised ingredient I want to talk about is Blue Tansy Oil. Blue tansy, which is actually yellow in colour and was once a wild-harvested Mediterranean plant, is now primarily grown in Morocco. Blue Tansy Flowers are part of the chamomile family (and also known as Moroccan chamomile). The flower was nearly wiped off in the wild as the demand for beauty goods skyrocketed. Despite the fact that supplies are continuously growing nowadays, it remains one among the more expensive essential oils. It can cost more than $100 for a 2-ounce bottle. Tanacetum annuum has yellow flowers. Its thin leaves have a delicate white "hair" on them. The oil's high camphor concentration gives it a pleasant, herbal scent.

The blue tansy plant's above-ground blossoms and stems are collected and steam-distilled. Chamazulene, one of the oil's chemical constituents, is released during the distillation process. The oil's indigo to cerulean colour is caused by the vivid blue coloration of chamazulene when heated. The amount of chamazulene that the plants actually contain varies from May to November as the growth season goes on.
The amazing hydrating properties of blue tansy oil help with both dry skin, acne-prone skin and skin that has peeled from the sun or left raw by harsh chemicals. It's got antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Its most common use is to calm irritated skin, reduce heat, and relieve delicate or troubled skin. Blue tansy's ability to clear congested pores, kill off pimple-causing bacteria, and reduce redness, make it one of the best oils for acne-prone skin.
And as is frequently the case with pure, natural, toxin-free beauty products, the aroma of blue tansy offers aromatherapy advantages. You are drawn into the herbaceous, earthy, and just a little bit sweet aroma of blue tansy by taking a leisurely, deep breath. It just feels really relaxing as you go through your skin-care routine.
Blue tansy oil contains several anti-inflammatory compounds, including:
• Chamazulene (also called azulene)
• Sabinene
• Camphor
• Myrcene
• Pinene
These substances can lessen skin damage, oedema, redness, and irritation when administered topically. They may even have the capacity to treat wounds naturally and combat ageing and UV damage symptoms like wrinkles and fine lines. Fighting microorganisms that could cause infections and reducing nasal congestion and respiratory system inflammation are two other applications for this oil's anti-inflammatory properties. For instance, aromatherapists frequently utilise the oil to break up mucus and aid breathing by diffusing it or having clients inhale it from a bowl of hot water.
Products containing blue tansy are frequently used to add moisture to dry skin and help reduce it. It's also employed in some instances to cure burns, such as those brought on by radiation treatments, however further research is required to validate its efficacy and safety.
Blue tansy appears to help lessen breakouts and other symptoms of skin inflammation and irritation, even if some face oils are not advised for individuals with acne-prone skin.
Naturally Camphor, a substance found in large quantities in blue tansy, provides a relaxing effect when inhaled. When worried or just before bed, you can use blue tansy oil in aromatherapy to help you feel grounded and at ease. Try inhaling it slowly from the container or dispersing it in your home. Additionally, it can be included in home-made face mists, room sprays, and massage oils.
And my favourite:
According to certain research, the compounds in blue tansy oil can repel pests and insects, including mosquitoes. For this reason, it's a perfect addition to natural and home-made bug sprays.

All skin types benefit from watermelon seed oil because it is light, quick to absorb, and clarifying for those with oily skin. However, because it hydrates and protects with antioxidants, minerals, and unsaturated fatty acids, it is also nutritious and helpful for dry skin. Even the most delicate skin will responds wonderfully to our clean, conscientious solutions.
Watermelon seed oil is the perfect oil for cleansing since it deeply penetrates the skin and gets rid of pollutants, grime, and dead skin. Linoleic acid-rich oils aid with oily skin and acne by acting to clear and eliminate excess sebum. They also help to clarify pores by dissolving debris and pollutants, leaving your face cleansed and nourished.
Watermelon seed oil is a powerhouse in the fight against wrinkles and early ageing due to its high linoleic and oleic acid content. Vitamin E, a potent antioxidant that prevents free radical damage, is also included in this oil in a healthy proportion. Phytosterols and omega-6 essential fatty acids promote skin cell renewal and new collagen formation.
The Vitamin E in watermelon seed oil prevents free radical damage, boosts blood circulation, and has been demonstrated to lessen puffiness in any part of the skin brought on by excessive water retention.
Skin looks uneven when certain areas of the skin have more melanin than others, making those areas appear darker than the rest, a condition also known as hyperpigmentation. Watermelon seed oil contains trace minerals and omega acids that have been proved to lessen the appearance of hyperpigmentation.

This past weekend the Scrubba Body Crew attended the Knockers and Moles fundraiser event help by the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation and the Hunter Melanoma Foundation. It was such a blast! Hosted by the sexiest drag queens in the business, Timberlina, Foxxe Faux and Abork. There was great food, drinks and games. This amazing night was organised by Abbey McDonell from Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation and her awesome team. Earlier in the week Abbey answered some questions about HBCF, have a read and feel free to donate via the link at the bottom of the page.
Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation (HBCF) is a small grassroots not-for-profit organisation locally based in Kotara, raising much needed funds to provide information and practical supportive care services to local breast cancer patients and their families. The foundation is unique as all monies raised are used to support women, men and their families of the Newcastle and Hunter region only, we are Hunter people helping Hunter people. HBCF is completely independent and 100% funded by our local community. HBCF provides everything from a Wig & Headwear Library to private transport to breast cancer related medical appointments, house cleaning or lawn maintenance during active treatment, a wellness hub including mindfulness and exercise programs, children’s cancer books and educational scholarships, comfort cushions for post-surgery and prosthesis financial support + more.
Once I heard about Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation, what they did and their minimal resourcing through previous General Manager and ex-work colleague (Ellie Wells) within another NFP organisation, I knew it was something I wanted to be part of. I’m extremely passionate about helping others, especially our local community. After witnessing so many loved ones affected by this horrible disease, I wanted to do my part in assisting local families in a practical, hands-on way. HBCF is a small team of 2 full-time staff members and 1 part time, so we have the opportunity and flexibility to wear many hats, from managing operations, coordinating support services, organising events, applying for grant funding, connecting, and training our wonderful Pink Army Volunteers, forming corporate partnerships, running campaigns to encourage our community to get involved + more. As soon as I came on board, I knew it was the right fit. After just over 2.5 years I have now stepped into the General Management position, and I couldn’t be happier to know that only a daily basis I get to help our community, this isn’t just a job for me it’s my life and the HBCF team work hard everyday to ensure no family is left without the support they need.
HBCF strongly encourage our community to get involved in assisting our local breast cancer families get the support they need by donating when possible or on a regular basis; volunteering to assist with HBCF’s signature events, wig & headwear library and transporting clients to medical appointments; attending HBCF events and community fundraisers or getting involved in creating their own fundraising activities. Coming up soon is October Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this year we are encouraging the community to help us ‘Paint the Town Pink’ this could be anything from decorating your business or home in pink, pledging to wear pink for the month or focusing on an exercise challenge while raising funds online, hosting a morning tea or BBQ or even purchasing merchandise from our online shop – fundraising is FUN and it can really be anything you want it to be, as simple or as extravagant as you’d like! We encourage the community like our Facebook page and share content with their network, sign up to our emails to keep up to date with our upcoming events and monthly e-newsletter – or you can check out our website to see what’s coming up.
It’s Father’s Day and today I wanted to answer a question that I’ve been asked Are separate skin care products really necessary for men and women? Another option is to declare all skin care to be unisex and call it a day.
Men's skin care is currently all the rage. But do men's-only skin care products (or entire skin care lines) really need to address the differences between male and female skin?
]]>Men's skin care is currently all the rage. But do men's-only skin care products (or entire skin care lines) really need to address the differences between male and female skin?
Well firstly, there is literally no difference in female and male skin. Skin is skin. There have been numerous studies testing the difference in sebum (oil) production, elasticity, and thickness. They all come back to the same issues of sun damage, ethnicity, and current skin care routines, not gender.
So the only real difference in ‘Mens’ skin care really comes down to packaging and fragrance. The two aspects that have absolutely no effect on the skin.
Anyone, gender regardless, should choose their skin care based on what their skin needs at the particular time. Be it extra moisture, exfoliant or anti aging. There is one constant that everyone should be doing though, USE SUNSCREEN.
]]>Spring is just around the corner, and I don’t know about you but she can’t come soon enough! I’m so ready for picnics and bushwalks and flowers! So to get in the mood for flower season I’ve been looking at all of the petals we feature in our products and their properties. Flowers are a big part of Scrubba Body, simply because they have so many natural superpowers. Here are just a few that we love and use.
As well as smelling insanely lush and luxurious, rose is a super heavy hitter when it comes to your skin. Roses have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which is great for reducing redness on the skin and treating any blemishes and puffiness. Roses are also a natural astringent, so they can help tighten your pores and hydrate your skin!
Hibiscus' high mucilage content improves the skin's capacity to retain moisture, which is essential for maintaining a youthful appearance. Hibiscus's naturally moisturising properties help skin stay hydrated, soft, and supple for longer, preventing dry, dull skin. Hibiscus is also known as nature’s Botox, so do what you will with that information.
Lavender is reported to be good for minimizing the appearance of scars, thus being useful for healing skin after a blemish. When used in skincare products the effect of lavender's amazing compounds minimize redness with its natural anti-inflammatory properties. Not to mention the soothing, calming effect of the flower’s fragrance.
Many different skin issues that might result in dry, itchy, or irritated areas of skin can be relieved with calendula. It calms eczema, dermatitis, and dandruff symptoms on the skin as it is a strong anti-inflammatory. Calendula contributes to the maintenance of calmed, hydrated skin by encouraging the development of collagen, a necessary protein for radiant skin. Your skin can benefit from fatty acids like the linoleic acid found in calendula flowers. They enable your skin cells to absorb nutrients and retain water for a longer period, which is fantastic for people who have dry skin. In other words, using products containing calendula can result in skin that is smoother, more supple, and better nourished.
The anti-inflammatory effects of camomile soothe redness. According to studies, camomile aids in the body's defence against the prostaglandins that cause inflammation. Because of this, camomile is a fantastic component for those with sensitive skin, as well as for those who suffer from inflammatory diseases like rosacea and sunburn. It assists in minimising DNA damage brought on by excessive UV exposure in cases of sunburns. Due to the quantity of flavonoids and phytochemicals in camomile, it has been used medicinally for a very long time. The look of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars is improved by these nutrients' ability to combat damaging free radicals and hasten cell regeneration.

Damp skin acts like a sponge, quickly absorbing any products you put on it. So if you want to maximize the performance of your lotions, creams and face oils, try using them on top of a layer of face mist. Our Face mists each have their own benefits.
Cucumber s a natural approach to tighten and shut open pores. Because of its moisturising and nourishing qualities, it can be used frequently.
Cucumber helps the skin retain moisture and is used to prevent wrinkles and early skin ageing. Applying it around the eyes will prevent crow's feet, one of the earliest indications of ageing, as it is helpful for delicate skin areas.
By clearing clogged pores and removing pollutants, cucumber juice helps to prevent outbreaks. It also soothes open acne. Both cooling and inflammatory, it aids in minimising the redness brought on by rashes, bug bites, and sunburns.
The plant has a high concentration of mucopolysaccharides, a class of hydration molecule chain that is a common component in many moisturisers. Aloe's hydrating properties can aid with eczema's dry, itchy skin symptoms. Aloe vera may help reduce swelling and itching associated with psoriasis, much as it does with eczema.
Dark patches and acne scars can be lightened using aloe vera. Even if acne isn't an issue right now, those bothersome scars might last for years. Aloe vera gel aids in promoting the skin's collagen formation, which lessens the visibility of scars. It lessens dark circles and swollen eyes. Aloe vera's collagen-producing properties aid with scars from conditions other than acne aswell.
Aloe also aids in the creation of new skin and reduce general inflammation in the face, which gives you a glowing, radiant appearance.
Rose water has a pleasant scent and is occasionally used as a gentle natural fragrance in place of perfumes that include chemicals.
Rose water's potent anti-inflammatory qualities are among its greatest advantages. Numerous illnesses, both internal and external, can be treated with the use of these qualities. It might even be able to reduce rosacea or eczema-related inflammation.
Since rose water has been used as a cosmetic for thousands of years, it should come as no surprise that it helps lighten skin redness and improve complexion. The antimicrobial qualities can help with acne aswell. Anti-inflammatory qualities can lessen skin sensitivity and puffiness.
Strong antimicrobial qualities of rose water help to both prevent and treat infections. Numerous potent antioxidants found in rose petals and oil can help shield cells from harm. According to one study, these antioxidants may have actions that limit lipid peroxidation. As a result, this offers strong cell protection.
Strong antidepressant and antianxiety qualities can be found in rose water. According to a 2011 study, mice's central nervous systems can be soothed by rose petal extract. Aromatherapy frequently employs rosewater and rose essential oil to ease headaches. This might be as a result of the de-stressing benefits mentioned in the preceding section. In beauty products intended to minimise wrinkles, rose water is frequently present. Due to its anti-aging properties.
Vitamin A help the skin's natural capacity to retain moisture. Collagen synthesis is aided, and the skin heals more quickly as a result. By lessening breakouts and enhancing the skin's immune system. It increases the skin's ability to retain moisture. Lavender Water is therefore ideal for sensitive, dry, and ageing skin.
Lavender Water is stated to reduce the appearance of scars as it can regenerate damaged skin tissue. As it promotes the growth of cells and tissues, it stops the scarring process.
It can also prevent the growth of germs that causes pimples and keeps the skin safe. Antioxidants are abundant in lavender water. Additionally, the inclusion of additional phytochemicals makes it a superb plant with anti ageing properties.
Lavender water firms the face, tightens the pores, and minimises wrinkles because it also functions as a toner. It removes free radicals and toxins from your body, giving you skin that is smooth and youthful-looking. With everyday use, it can also help the skin's suppleness.
Unbalanced pH levels of the skin are frequently the root cause of skin issues like eczema, early ageing, dryness, acne, and greasy skin. The skin's natural barrier is immediately weakened when the pH level is out of whack, and contact with dangerous substances worsens how the skin tissues operate. But utilising lavender water can assist with all of these problems since it specifically controls the pH levels of the skin, keeping it nourished and healthy.
In the past, the Greeks used lavender to treat burns, wounds, and ailments. Lavender has antibacterial qualities that help the skin recover more quickly while also halting the spread of any infections. Lavender Water promotes the production of collagen, tissue remodelling, and wound contraction, all of which significantly speed up skin healing. Additionally, it cleanses the skin.

There isn’t one, simple way of practicing gratitude that is going to work for everyone (well, we haven’t found it yet). But here are the ways that have been working for our team & hopefully you’ll find a few that suit you too.
]]>In last weeks’ blog we talked about the amazing benefits of regularly practicing gratitude; Improved mental & physical health, self-esteem boosting, relationship building. So it’s no secret that we are all about that gratitude life now. But what’s the best way to practice gratitude? How do we do it? Is there an easy way?
There isn’t one, simple way of practicing gratitude that is going to work for everyone (well, we haven’t found it yet). But here are the ways that have been working for our team & hopefully you’ll find a few that suit you too.
This one is easy but you have to remember to do it. Consider something for which you are grateful. Anything, big or small. Think about being thankful for things like having a comfortable bed to wake up in, hot water for your morning shower, or a great cup of coffee to start your day. You might feel appreciative of your family, co-workers, friends, or the random stranger you just met today. Whatever it is, focus on getting there in your thoughts.
Take into account how you feel. Before continuing with the remainder of your day, pause for a moment to be with that emotion.
Try shifting your thoughts if you catch yourself thinking negatively or whining. Consider the positive aspects of the person or circumstance you are prone to criticising. This action has the power to drastically alter how you are feeling right now. And if you develop the habit of doing this, you help your brain develop a distinct neural pathway that is based on your strengths.
You might make a weekly list of things you’re grateful for on your social media platforms. I know some of these posts can seem a bit cringeworthy sometimes, so try & mix it up and be creative with your posts. “This week I managed to hit a new goal of getting to the gym every morning and I’m amazing at how good I’m feeling.” Try to maintain this for more than six weeks.
Another suggestion is to keep a gratitude journal. Set aside some time during the day, perhaps while you try to unwind before going to sleep or even in the bath. Consider your day and list the positive aspects. Perhaps your partner fixed a problem around the house, your favourite music came on the radio, or you witnessed a double rainbow. Consider writing about all of the awesome things you may have come to take for granted, such as having access to clean water or a particular skill you have.
We found this amazing Gratitude Journal App that we absolutely love!
We have started scheduling regular waiting times throughout the day for this task. Do you wait for your morning coffee at the same time every day? Get the same train or bus to work? Set a new prior trigger that prompts you to be appreciative. Consider a brief moment in your day that you could couple with a five-second exercise in appreciation. Then, deliberately associate appreciation with that trigger each day until it becomes as automatic as putting milk in your coffee.
Some example ‘waiting time prompts’ our team has started using are;
If you have trouble identifying a "prompt" in the above tip, an alarm might serve as a better, more pointed prompt to express gratitude.
Set it to go off when you know you'll either need or want to take a little break, and then take a moment to practise gratitude. You can make a list of your day's accomplishments so far or simply be grateful for the opportunity to close your eyes and think internally for a short while. Set your alarm for the next day after you take a deep breath and reset.
You can become more conscious of what you have and what it means to have it by volunteering or making a donation. By assisting individuals around you, you'll also be boosting your own morale.
According to a 2013 study, those who regularly volunteer are more likely to be upbeat and feel like they have more control over their life than people who don't.
If you’re already strapped for spare time in the week, consider asking your workplace if they allow time off for volunteering.
Go around the table the next time you're having dinner with your friends, your partner, or your kids and express what you're grateful for today. You'll be held accountable by others, and saying out loud how grateful you are can help it really sink in, making you feel more energised, alert, and content.
Thank your body for its endurance and your thoughts for persevering through the challenging times at the conclusion of each gym sesh. Write a gratitude note on your water bottle to help you remember it while you quench your thirst.
Are you appreciative of a friend's or family members? Tell them! Try expressing your gratitude in a letter or text, or pick up the phone and shoot someone a voice memo. Maybe even send them a nice little Gift Bundle... just because.
Their day will be made better by hearing your gratitude, and it will also help you forge new connections. According to a 2014 study, people who express gratitude to new acquaintances for their assistance are more likely to forge friendships with them.
For some extra tips & advice on the best ways to express gratitude, we recently listened to the ‘Attitude of Gratitude’ episode of the Happy Hour Podcast where they interviewed the king of gratitude Hugh Van Cuylenburg. Hugh explains it all so eloquently and makes it all sound so easy! We even recently added Hugh’s book ‘Finding Happiness Through Gratitude, Empathy & Mindfulness’ to our Audible list.
]]>Here are a few reasons to get your mind and body in the zone for more positive thoughts;
]]>Here at Scrubba HQ we recently celebrated our sixth birthday and it got us thinking about how far we have come and how much we have to be thankful for. While we were reflecting and making notes about our journey we all noticed how much our emotional and physical well-being changed and one of our team pointed out that it was because we were unknowingly practicing a form of gratitude. So we went in to research mode and it has completely changed our perspective on so many things.
According to research, practicing gratitude as a kind of self-care is one approach to achieve a healthier, less-stressed life. Regular expressions of thankfulness have been linked to improved optimism, better sleep, fewer physical ills, and lower levels of anxiety and depression.
Here are a few reasons to get your mind and body in the zone for more positive thoughts;
While it was formerly thought that our brains were fixed after puberty, neuroscientists have recently revealed that our brains can continue to grow and change long into old age.
Let's say you tend to gripe. You're constantly trying to find something wrong with someone or something. This pessimistic viewpoint not only affects how you feel, but it also creates a neurological pathway in the brain. Additionally, if you go down this negative route more frequently, new neural connections are made to support this particular thought process. The pathway may eventually even be protected by a process called myelination, speeding up the rate at which these neurones fire together.
However, if you focus on the positive aspects of a given situation, a new set of neurones begin to fire together. They become more closely linked as a result of repetition, and a fresh brain pathway is created. The "what's negative about the person or scenario" path is trimmed back, a process known as "synaptic pruning," making this busier path the default. The physical wiring of the brain changes with time.
More advantages than one might anticipate are promised by a quick but frequent gratitude exercise. For example, a study on college students in the US showed that those who journaled about their blessings once a week for ten weeks exercised more than those who wrote about other topics. A thankfulness practise encourages, among other things, quitting smoking, better nutrition, exercise, and sleep.
Studies have also demonstrated that being grateful can enhance immunity, sleep, and mood. Additionally, gratitude can lower risk of disease, symptoms of chronic pain, anxiety, and despair.
Another study on adults and college students in the U.S. and Korea who were asked to complete one of two thankfulness exercises - recalling a grateful experience or writing a gratitude letter - saw further boost for their social well-being. Some participants took part in activities like shopping or hiking. Participants who practised thankfulness felt closer to people than the other two groups.
A study by Dr Terri Orbuch showed that “couples in a relationship who expressed frequent gratitude to each other were the happiest in their marriages by a significant margin. In fact, 61 percent of the happy couples in my study said that their spouses "often" made them feel good about the kind of person they are, compared to only 27 percent of the other couples. For these happy couples, gratitude came in the form of words, gestures, or acts that showed a spouse that they were noticed, appreciated, respected, loved, or desired.
People who are more appreciative of a friend or partner are also more prone to share their worries about the relationship, which can spark meaningful discussions that strengthen your friendship.
Those who express gratitude more often also have higher self-esteem. This might be because you gain a stronger sense of your own worth when you purposefully pay attention to the ways other people treat you well. People who feel more gratitude are less inclined to compare themselves to others, which can alter the way they perceive themselves.
Other research has demonstrated that feeling grateful lessens social comparisons. People who are appreciative are able to accept other people's accomplishments rather than developing resentment towards those who have more money or better jobs, which is a significant contributor to lower self-esteem.
An athlete's self-esteem, which is crucial for achieving peak performance, was found to rise as a result of appreciation, according to a 2014 study published in the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology.

But why do we love it so much!? For the skin benefits of course. Check out some of the reasons that make our Coconut Bath Milk one of our favourite (and most popular) products that we make!
]]>With its creamy texture and natural sweetness, coconut milk tastes like it should be bad for you. And yet, it's anything but! And did you realise that coconut milk isn't really "milk" at all? It is a liquid that is naturally present in mature coconuts and is kept inside the "meat" of the coconut. Coconut water is the liquid that comes out when a fresh coconut is cracked open. However, the coconut "meat" becomes a thicker coconut "milk" when it is blended and strained.
But why do we love it so much!? For the skin benefits of course. Check out some of the reasons that make our Coconut Bath Milk one of our favourite (and most popular) products that we make!
When applied topically to dry skin, coconut milk's high fat content can have an excellent moisturising impact and function as a sealant to lock in moisture and moisturise. The lipids in it smooth skin cells, make it simple to absorb, and keep your skin elastic.
This white tropical substance is dripping with Vitamins. It has vitamins C, E, B1, B3, and B5, which support healthy skin elasticity, hydrate hair follicles, and encourage hair development. Vitamin E is a crucial antioxidant that guards the skin from damage brought on by daily environmental stressors like pollution and sun exposure. Vitamin C can aid in reducing pigmentation and inflammation. Vitamin E offers additional advantages because it moisturises as well, assisting you in achieving that coveted dewy skin. Red, irritated, or dry skin can benefit from vitamins B1 and B5, while vitamin B2 can aid to even out skin tone.
Antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory effects are present in coconut milk. The medium-chain triglycerides in coconut milk contain these well-known acids, such as lauric acid, decanoic acid, caprylic acid, and caproic acid.
Because coconut milk has anti-inflammatory effects, applying it to sunburnt skin promotes quick healing. It aids by soothing the skin and easing discomfort, bruising, and redness.
Its calming qualities make it an excellent moisturiser. To battle dryness and encourage healthy, bright skin, you can apply coconut milk to your skin for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Or you can go the easier, and our favourite, option and soak in a bath of it.
When applied gently, coconut milk has a great hydrating impact on dry skin disorders like psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis. Natural fatty acids included in coconut milk aid in the treatment of dry, irritated skin and the eradication of harmful microorganisms.
Like coconut oil, coconut milk functions as a powerful cleanser for getting rid of dirt and waste from your pores while also hydrating your skin.
So why not treat yourself to a relaxing, and highly beneficial, Coconut Milk soak HERE.

1. Camping gear. You’ll obviously need a tent, mattress of some form and as much warm bedding you can carry – it gets really bloody cold at night. But also, a table, camp chairs, battery powered lights, an esky, snacks and pre sealed water. We usually each bring one of those water goon sacks. A reusable cup and plate. And a rechargeable power pack. Remember that everything you take in, you have to take out. So keep the single use plastic at home.
2. Outfits! Obviously, you want to look good but please please please make sure that you’re comfortable! So many times, my friends and I have created these amazing outfits only to find out that they don’t really work when you’re trying to bust a move or head into the mosh. When you’re holding a strap to keep a small piece of fabric in place and can’t wave your hands in the air like you just don’t care, trust me, your fun factor is going down at least 48%. Also, you need to bring warm clothes. It gets soooo cold. I remember one night checking the weather app and it said 6 degrees but feels like 2. I’m pretty sure I wore thermals, a tracksuit, a unicorn onesie and 2 pairs of woolly socks to bed each night that year. Also just bring heaps of socks and a pair of gloves. Trust me.
3. The comfy rule goes for shoes! You will be walking in gravel or mud, over a very steep hill and through absolutely disgusting drop toilets. Wear closed in shoes. Don’t even bother with heals. Also make sure your shoes aren’t brand new, they need to be well worn in. Blisters are not conducive with dancing all night long.
4. A basic first aid kit. I bring paracetamol, a box of band aids, period products, Berocca, Armaforce, Imodium and anti-nausea tablets and cold and flu medication. ALL OF THESE THINGS WILL COME IN HANDY! Especially if you overindulge at the bar or food trucks ;-) Also spare masks. The ‘vid is still here and more contagious than ever.
5. A sewing kit. For wardrobe malfunctions and dodgy wrist bands.
6. Glam! make up (duh), a mirror, dry shampoo, pins, clips and hair bands. If you bring glitter, make sure it’s biodegradable.
7. Toiletries and Self-care. You obviously will need a towel - the campground showers are hot and exactly what you need to start the day. One year I famously forgot soap and all I had was a pouch of Grapefruit Sparkle Body Scrub. I looked like a shimmery goddess but ended up cutting a chunk off a bar of my friend’s soap to ensure my bits were sanitary lol. Here are my self care essentials for music festival camping. I've linked everything below.
I know that’s a long list and I do like to be overly cautious, but If you can work out between your friends to divvie it all up, you’ll be set for everything and won’t have to worry about anything.
