This year our whole team is getting involved with Stars Of Newcastle – an initiative where local personalities team up with a local dance school and learn a dance to perform later in the year, while raising money for the Cancer Council along the way. Think of it as Dancing With The Stars but local and for a good cause.
Since teaming up with this incredible organisation we have been blown away by the incredible work they do and support they provide. Read on to learn all about this amazing team of people.
Cancer Council NSW is a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to reducing the impact of cancer on individuals and communities in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. The organization was founded in 1954 and since then, it has been working tirelessly to reduce the burden of cancer through research, prevention, support, and advocacy.
Cancer Council NSW is one of the largest funders of cancer research in Australia, investing millions of dollars each year to support research into the causes, prevention, and treatment of cancer. The organisation funds a range of research programs, including basic science, clinical trials, epidemiology, and health services research. This research helps to improve our understanding of cancer, and to develop better ways to prevent, detect, and treat the disease.
Cancer Council NSW is committed to preventing cancer through a range of initiatives aimed at reducing the risk factors for cancer. This includes programs to promote healthy lifestyle choices, such as quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy diet, and engaging in regular physical activity. The organisation also runs SunSmart, a national program aimed at reducing the incidence of skin cancer by promoting sun protection measures such as wearing protective clothing and using sunscreen.
Cancer Council NSW provides a range of support services for people affected by cancer, including patients, carers, and families. These services include counselling, practical support, and information and advice on cancer-related issues. The organization also runs a number of support groups for people affected by cancer, providing a safe and supportive environment for people to share their experiences and find support.
Cancer Council NSW is also actively involved in advocacy work, campaigning for policy changes that will help to reduce the impact of cancer. This includes advocating for increased funding for cancer research and prevention programs, as well as for better access to cancer treatments and support services. The organisation also works to raise awareness about the impact of cancer on individuals and communities, and to promote the importance of cancer prevention and early detection.
In summary, Cancer Council NSW is a vital organisation that plays a crucial role in reducing the impact of cancer on individuals and communities in New South Wales. Through its research, prevention, support, and advocacy work, the organisation is making a real difference in the fight against cancer. If you or someone you know has been affected by cancer, Cancer Council NSW can provide information, support, and advice to help you through this challenging time.
