It’s an exciting day here at Scrubba Body Headquarters! We’ve got new candles going live on the website today.

There's something a lil bit magical about burning a scented candle. The ambience, the fragrance can really elevate a room. But did you know that not all candles are the same? Specifically, there are some fragrant candles out there that can actually cause health issues. Obviously at Scrubba Body, wellness and clean living is at the forefront of everything we make. So I wanted to go through the different types of candles and why we use what we use.

It’s all about the wax!

We are vegan so we don’t use beeswax. Not much more to say about that.

Most other candles are either made with paraffin or soy. We use 100% ethical and renewably sourced soy. Soy wax is made from soybeans. Soy wax is a hydrogenated vegetable oil that turns to a solid at room temperature. After they are harvested, the beans are cleaned, cracked, dehulled, and rolled into flakes. Soy wax contains nothing artificial. Soy wax also burns cleaner. Because soy wax is all natural it produces less soot than other wax types. Soy is all around better for the environment and your health.

Candles made from paraffin wax can be seriously hazardous to your health. Paraffin wax is made from petroleum, which is a straight up red flag for environmental issues. Petroleum being a non renewable fossil fuel. The other warning sign was that paraffin wax produces benzene when burned. Benzene is a cancer causing chemical which we should just stay away from if we can help it. Not to mention the additional chemicals need to be added to paraffin wax to colour, add scent and change the melting point.

So there you have it. Now have a look here at our Soy Wax Candles, in all of your favourite Scrubba Body Candle flavours. We're super excited for you all to see our new XL candles. We did some testing to work out exactly how long these big chonky babies burned for and we got to around 120 hours. But the main thing we noticed while burning these is the scent would travel so far, it could fragrance you whole house easily. They make the perfect gift for someone you love... yourself!
